How to Jump Higher
Mar

*This is the first installment of a several part series all about HOW TO JUMP HIGHER.*
Jumping…it’s pretty cool right? Darn right it is!
What basketball player doesn’t want to sky towards the rim?
What undersized guard wouldn’t want to have the hang-time of a (younger) Baron Davis or Dwyane Wade?
What big man wouldn’t want to have the explosiveness to cram it in his defender’s face after a smooth drop-step?
And what basketball coach wouldn’t want to have a team full of gravity-manipulating freaks!
And as my good friend and mentor Kelly Baggett says in his incredible book The Vertical Jump Development Bible, if you want to sky, you have got yourself three options:
- Buy yourself a plane ticket
- Sprout some feathers
- Improve your vertical jump
While I am by no means a rocket scientist, I don’t think your first option is going to cut it, and I’m not entirely sold that second one is even possible!
So, that means you got yourself one option: IMPROVE YOUR VERTICAL JUMP.
Now, I know that a lot of you reading this might be saying something like, “But isn’t vertical jump just a genetic thing? It can’t be improved, at least not significantly!”
To which I reply calmly, “Come on! Forget that old-school dogma! Of course it can be improved.”
Want proof? Your fearless author has added more than 10 inches to his vertical jump in the last couple years.
Furthermore, I have never had a client who wanted to up their vertical jump and didn’t end up doing exactly that.
Want even more proof? Remember that guy Baggett I talked about at the beginning of this article? Well, he put over 20 inches on his vertical jump over the course of several years (23 inches to be exact!).
So now that we have established that your vertical jump can obviously be improved, we get to move on to the good stuff, which of course includes the whole point of this series, how to jump higher!
On top of talking about how to jump higher, we are also going to look at individual differences that might force different basketball players to take different routes to the land of high-flyers, how there is more than one way to improve your vertical jump, the mistakes most people make when trying to improve their vertical jump and tons, tons more information all about how to jump higher!
So be sure to stay tuned for the additions coming to this series at Basketball Fit. This information is going to be so good, you will NOT want to miss out!
